Welcome!

Welcome to our Eng 100 Blog “Conversations Beyond the Classroom”! The title of this blog refers to the community of active readers & collaborative learners we are creating by sharing our academic writing for Eng 100 with each other + a larger group of students, instructors, academics, and just about anybody who chooses to follow our blog! When you write and post your reader responses here (and, later, as you write your essays for the course), I encourage you to use this audience to conceptualize who you are writing for and, most important, how to communicate your ideas so that this group of academic readers and writers can easily follow your line of thinking. Think about it this way: What do you need to explain and articulate in order for the other bloggers to understand your response to the essays we’ve read in class? What does your audience need to know about those essays and the authors who wrote them? And how can you show your readers, in writing, which ideas you add to these “conversations” that take place in the texts we study?

As students of Eng 100, you will use this blog to begin conversations with other academic writers on campus (students and instructors alike). We become active readers of each other’s writing when we comment on posts here. And, best of all, we are using this space to share ideas! We encourage you to use this blog to further think through the topics and writing strategies you will be introduced to this quarter. As always, be sure to give credit to those people whose ideas you borrow for your own thinking and writing (you should do this in the blog by commenting on their post, but you will also be required to cite what you borrow from your peers/instructors if and when it winds up in your essays. More details on that later…).

Finally, keep in mind that writing to and for this audience is a good way to prepare for the panel of readers (faculty at WCC) who will be reading and assessing your writing portfolio at the end of the quarter. We hope that as a large group of active readers, we can better prepare each other for this experience. But, in the meantime, let’s have fun with it! I am really excited see how far we can take this together!

Juliana's Introduction

Hi my name is Juliana I am a Running Start student. After I finish Running Start I plan on joining the military so that when I am out I get the rest of my college paid for. When I am out of the military I plan on going to New York City where I will finish school to become a forensic scientist. While I am working up to being a forensic scientist I plan on working as a bar tender to pay the rent for an apartment. Also I plan on auditioning for TV shows or movies just for fun. If I don't make it I really don't care but I thought it would be fun.
I love to read fiction mostly books I can just relax with and not think to hard about. My favorite Books are The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare. I also like the author L.J Smith and a lot more. I love to shop for clothes and shoes. It's become a very bad habit. I always have no money because I have to spend it. It is impossible for me to go to the mall with out leaving with something even if it is only socks or maybe a bottle of pop. I always have to get something. I'd rather have someone else buy me things or use others money like my dad's. I also love the sun and unfortunately we don't get much sun in this area. Last summer I went to Florida where it was warm all the time even when it rained so this summer I was a little disappointed and will be freezing this winter.
I have a cat named Tess who is mostly an outside cat and loves to hunt birds and mice. My dad used to not let her in the house so she would come to my window at night and meow until I let her in though she only likes to come in when it's cold and wet. Now she gets to come in through the front door but I keep her in my room. She doesn't like anyone else except me and will give them hateful looks. She definitely will not let anyone pick her up except me and will barely let any one but me pet her. I love how she does that because it means I'm the only one she likes and it makes me feel good :)
I don't really have anything else to add and I don't have any pictures because I'm not on my own computer.
